AI is accelerating many kinds of work and indeed other aspects of life.

This wave of technological development is already solving many problems, giving rise to new possibilities.

But it also creates new problems and challenges like those described here by Steve Yegge and here by Simon Willison—both extensive users of AI tools.

There are also increasing second-order effects, some of which are clear, others of which are more subtle and nebulous.

My thesis: Goldratt’s Theory of Constraints (TOC) is more relevant than ever.

Bottlenecks may have shifted, but basic principles have not. The Five Focusing Steps still apply as solid best practice.

If U are not familiar with TOC, Tiago Forte has a good 101 series on it.

For those who are familiar, one commenter astutely observed: “It’s you. You’re Herbie.”

Now that’s a reframe.

Knowledgeable folks may be familiar with Goldratt and TOC, but less familiar with his intellectual descendants. It’s worth reviewing Dettmer’s pragmatic operationalization of it, especially with The Logical Thinking Process.
