Something Aspen taught me:
We play music.
It’s not (just) practice.
It’s not (just) performance.
It’s play.
Like, playing on the playground play.
Like, having fun playing with each other play.
If it’s not play, is it really music?
If it’s not fun, is it really worth doing?
I think of this whenever I do music, when I play piano, when I sing, when I mess around with Ableton.
I love playing music! And I’m grateful for my friend, who taught me this and many other things.
